Stand Up Paddle Boarding is the hottest new craze taking over water sports. It’s ease of learning and great core workout attracts water enthusiasts of all types. SUP is part paddling, part balancing, part surfing. On flat inland water, you can cruise and glide while touring the local sites. On small swells, you can easily paddle into and ride the waves. You can also take your SUP board and put a windsurf sail on it – a multi-sport blast!
Friday Sept 10th • Friday Nights at the de Young • 6-9PM
Friday Nights at the de Young offers a variety of interdisciplinary arts programs, including live music, poetry, films, dance, tours, and lectures. The cafe is open with a special Friday Nights dinner menu, and a no-host cocktail bar is serving drinks. There are art making activities for everyone. All Friday Night programming is FREE unless otherwise noted.
Friday Sept 10th • Drink for a Cause • 6-10 PM
Young professionals in the Bay Area come together once a month by partnering with local San Francisco venues to raise funds and awareness for a charitable organization or cause ranging from human trafficking to breast cancer research to domestic violence and more. According to the UN, 20 million people have been affected and 6 million are in urgent need of food aid — more than double the number of people affected by the 2004 tsunami and the Haiti earthquake combined. This month Drink for a Cause will be having happy hour at Slide for the very first time. Please come out and invite your friends so we can do our part to help save lives in Pakistan.
Saturday Sept 11th • Underground Farmers Market • 11-4 & 6-12
The SF Underground Farmers Market is a venue where you can taste and purchase the food that is being produced in backyards and home kitchens in the Bay Area. At the early shift you be able to purchase “take homeables” like jams, produce, and soaps. The later shift will mainly be food that’s ready to eat.
Sunday Sept 12th • Crush Barrel Wine Market • 12-5PM
The Crush Barrel Wine Market is the first of its kind to offer consumers a $10 instant rebate towards the purchase of wine. Northern California’s premiere wine tasting and wine market celebrates the Bay Area’s vintners, food purveyors, specialty vendors, live music and more. Buying tickets early is recommend — they sold out last time.
Sunday Sept 12th • Great Salsa Food War • 12-5PM
September is the perfect month for an outdoor Food War and it’s totally prime tomato, pepper, berry, and stonefruit season, so SF Food Wars asks you, San Francisco, to partake in a celebration of this fine city’s most awesomest salsa!! At an SF Food Wars battle, Eaters palates and votes are vital to the cause. Upon entry, you will take on a task of the utmost importance. You must nibble, sample, nibble again, sample once more, no maybe twice more, okay probably a lot more, take a breather, eat a little more, think about what you ate, debate with your fellow Eaters, and eventually, cast your oh-so-vital vote! Take notes if you need to. Food comas welcome.
Sunday Sept 12th • Rossotti Ranch Dinner • 3-8PM
Take a tour of Rossotti Ranch, stroll through the livestock working corrals and climb to the top of our hill where views of the plentiful Bloomfield Valley abound. Following the tour, participants will have an opportunity to meet neighboring farmers who will be sampling farmstead cheeses and meats they have personally produced, while watching as Chef Pam Ferrari of Ferrari Catering prepares a delicious dinner on site in the barn. Dinner will be served “feast style” at a long, white-linen draped table in the barn. Chef Ferrari’s mouth watering menu highlights all locally-grown seasonal salads, grilled veggies and meats including goat, beef, lamb and pork, which will be served family style. Each dinner will also include a “secret” course – a little treat from the Rossotti’s in honor of your visit. We’ll round off the meal with Straus Family Creamery Ice Cream with seasonal fruit toppings and freshly brewed coffee.
